Privacy Policy — The Report

The Report (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an independent surf-forecast app operated by Brainiac LLC. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it, and how you can delete it.

What we collect

• Your email address. Used to create and sign in to your account. You sign in with Sign in with Apple or a one-time email code; we do not store a password. If you use Sign in with Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only ever see Apple’s private relay address.
• Your preferences and content. Your favorite spots, display and size preferences, notification schedule, any surf sessions you log, and any custom spots you create (a name, a map location, and the settings that tune its forecast). Custom spots are private to your account by default.
• Your device push token. If you turn on notifications, Apple issues a token that lets us deliver your daily forecast. It is tied to your account for delivery only.
• Location — only if you choose. If you tap “near me” to find spots around you, the app requests location access while you are using it and uses your position solely to sort nearby spots on your device. We do not store your location or send it to our servers, and the app works fully without it.
• Diagnostics. If the app crashes, we receive a crash report (via Sentry) associated with your account identifier so we can fix the problem.
• Subscription status. When you subscribe, Apple and our payments provider (RevenueCat) tell us whether your subscription is active. We never receive or store your payment card or Apple ID credentials — Apple handles all billing.

We do not run ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

How we use it

To run your account and your 30-day free trial, build and deliver forecasts for your spots, send the daily report you asked for, generate your personalized written outlook, keep the app working, and process your subscription. To generate your written daily outlook, the forecast data and your preferences for your favorite spots are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the summary text; this is not used to train their models. To produce a forecast for a custom spot you create, that spot’s coordinates are sent to weather-data providers (e.g. Open-Meteo, NOAA) to retrieve conditions.

Who processes your data (subprocessors)

• Supabase — account authentication and database.
• Fly.io — application hosting.
• Apple / RevenueCat — subscription billing and push delivery.
• Anthropic — generating your written daily outlook.
• Sentry — crash diagnostics.
• Open-Meteo / NOAA / CDIP — weather and ocean data used to build forecasts (we send spot coordinates to retrieve conditions).

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes your account and its associated data (favorites, preferences, custom spots, logged sessions, device tokens, and subscription records) from our systems. If you have an active paid subscription, deleting your account does not cancel Apple billing — cancel that in your Apple ID subscription settings. We may retain limited records where required by law. You can also email us at support@thereport.app to request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it for you.

Children

The Report is rated 4+ and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy; the effective date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be surfaced in the app.
